If I had written the ending to "The Giving Tree"

"I'm tired," the boy said.
"Well, you can cut me down and make a chair of my wood," said the tree, who had already given the boy it loved its fruit, shade and limbs.
So the boy did, but the tree fell on the boy and crushed him to death.
"Take that, you ungrateful prick," said the tree.

Once it stood for Ford Prefect.
Then it stood for Francis Patrick.
Now it stands for Foolish Person.
Tomorrow, who knows?

P.S. I miss you too.

I consider the book, "The Giving Tree" to be mandatory reading for any codependent... Living by the words of this book is the perfect recipe for an unhealthy relationship. -vf

Why would the tree offer up sucide and death to the boy.

Perhaps it would have been better to write: Lean on me whenever you are tired; rest in the shade which forever long I will provide to you, shall my leaves breath with you."
